Jason Poon
I am Jason Poon, 52 at Dec 8, a Catholic Christian, an engineer and a businessman. I received First Honour Bachelor degree from Southbank University London and Master of Law from City University of Hong Kong. I am currently Vice Chairman on Redcross’ New Territory East Elder Services and members of two think tanks namely Chatham House and International Institute of Strategic Studies. I am new on my political career.
I was the whistleblower of MTRC Shatin-Central Line Hunghom Station’s Scandal Works. Finally 37% of the reinforcement connection was found noncompliance to the design and much more managerial and technical problems were revealed during an Independent Commission of Inquiry. Simultaneously it costs me HK$118millions contract payment being withheld and HK$8millions legal costs in addition, I bear all financial pressures myself by selling 4 properties settling all labour wages and legal costs. However I do opine it is worth in ensuring public safety and tackling our industry decay.
In response to a usual question on my political stance, I am situating at middle span, pro-democracy. However I emphasize it is too stress and fragment in our society therefore we must relief our atmosphere by a practical and fact-dominated approach, we should not determine everything by political stance and let our cracks retain.
As a businessman commits to stay Hong Kong, I will strive for breakthrough on current adversities and relief our social cracks, so that our society may find a way forward at this restricted political atmosphere.
